Often in the busyness of everyday living, the first thing to go out the window is our time with God. We've all fallen short in this area, but we must all grow in it as well. Realising and remembering that a day without Jesus is always worse than a day with Him, we need to fight for our time with Him.
One of the things I have treasured as lessons from my first mentor was the concept of fighting for quiet time. I remember him always telling me, "You have to fight to spend time with God if you want to fight less with everyone and everything else." And nothing could have been more true for me and for all of us.
When push comes to shove and our schedules pile up and we need to hit the ground running day in and day out, the first thing to go is our prayer time and our moments where we can just sit and allow God's presence to recharge us. In Psalm 46:10, Our Lord commands us, "Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
Success only comes when a certain amount of hard work is put into something. Think about it this way: You have two buckets- one is success, the other is you- and then you have a water source that is God. God is the source and motivation to bring out all good and pleasant work. Ephesians 2:10 tells us, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
Many times we think that to put in work into success, all we have to do is depend on what strength we have, but often we run short. That's because we cannot produce strength on our own. We need God who is the source of all strength to do good work. Unless we run back to the faucet that is Jesus and refill our buckets, we will be running to success empty and with nothing to give.
Joshua 1:8 says, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
If we want good success, we cannot miss time with God. We have to fight for our time with Him and allow Him to fill us with His power, love, energy and motivation to do the work that He has set for us to do. God is our source, not ourselves. Look to spend time with Him and be filled with His presence and you will see better results out of your busy days.
