'Chasing Life' season 2 spoilers: April, Beth go to Bermuda; things don't go as planned in episode 2
The sophomore season of "Chasing Life" premiered Monday, and it showed how April's complicated life gets a little more difficult. However, it doesn't compare to all the drama that she has yet to face this season.
During the season 2 premiere, April (Italia Ricci) found out that her cancer is not in remission, and she also discovered a manuscript written by her late father. Apart from those, she also has to deal with all the preparations for her impending wedding with Leo (Scott Michael Foster), while her family becomes vocal about their concern regarding the upcoming wedding. Can April handle all these?
"Chasing Life" executive producer Patrick Sean Smith recently talked to the members of the press about what lies ahead for April in season 2, saying that she will experience a lot of major changes in the upcoming episodes. According to Smith, the season will let go of April's dream job at The Boston Post this season, since they want to focus more on how she will deal with her cancer relapse, and how to spend her remaining time on Earth if she will indeed die soon.
Smith also told Variety that April will definitely struggle with all the changes that will happen in her life, especially in her personal life, her professional life, and her romantic relationships. For April, season 2 will be "a profound struggle as she explores these uncharted waters."
With TV Line, the executive producer also revealed that April will begin living her life differently.
"We're starting April from this place of living life like you know you're going to die, which we can all technically take a page from. You don't have to have cancer to realize you're going to die someday. While she's pushing herself out of her comfort zone through the season, we wanted a voice that wasn't Leo's in the carpe diem sense, but somebody who says, 'I decided to be selfish. If my days are numbered, I want to live them for me, not for somebody else,'" Smith said.
Also, April and the rest of the Carvers will have to deal with the aftermath of discovering her father's manuscript, while Natalie (Jessica Meraz) struggles with the fact that Dominic (Richard Brancatisano) still has feelings for April.
Meanwhile, the official synopsis for "Chasing Life" season 2 episode 2 reads:
April is enjoying her new living life in the moment lifestyle but is forced to channel 'old April' when she has to make an important decision about her healthcare. To take a break from the stressful decision, April and Beth finally go on their Bermuda weekend trip, but they end up not exactly living the relaxing island lifestyle. Meanwhile, Sara struggles over money issues, and Brenna finally finds a place she fits in at Charlton."
Episode 2 titled "The Age of Consent" will air on Monday, July 13, on ABC Family.
