Christian voters strongly back Mike Huckabee as next US president: 'Closest to a King David running'
If Christian voters only had their way, then former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee would become the next president of the United States.
According to a poll recently conducted by the American Christian Voting Guide, Huckabee scored a whopping 92 percent approval rating due to his strong stance supporting the freedom of religion and defence of Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, who was jailed after she defied the court in her refusal to sign same-sex marriage licences. Respondents also approved of Huckabee's fight against abortion and homosexuality.
According to the voting guide, which was formed by the Reverend Steven Andrew, the Bible's five qualifications for choosing leaders are a person who is a Christian who fears God, calls for Christian religious liberty, insists that the nation enjoys God-given rights, is truthful, and hates covetousness.
Their qualifications are all based on the Bible verses 2 Samuel 23:3, 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, Exodus 18:21, Matthew 4:10, Genesis 1:27, Galatians 5:1, and Leviticus 25:10.
"The most critical issue in the 2016 election is to do God's will and vote for Christians that believe like our founding fathers. They insisted to have Christian religious liberty to serve the Lord freely as every Christian and pastor must do. This will heal our land and end the persecution of Christians," the American Christian Voting Guide explains on its website.
Following Huckabee in the voting guide was Rand Paul with 85 percent, Ben Carson with 82 percent, and Ted Cruz with 80 percent. They all received favourable marks as well because they are perceived to be defending "God-given rights and truthfully upholding the Constitution."
Meanwhile, other presidential bets such as Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders were not even assessed because they are "biblically unqualified" or "do not fear God."
Andrew said in light of Huckabee's high rating, Christians should support him because he is the "closest to a King David running."
"True Americans have always followed God's principles. Our founders had schools read the Bible and chaplains pray in Jesus' name. When people stopped fearing God, all the troubles came," Andrew said.
"It is time to please God; we must repent of voting based on how much money one raises or popularity. Those things can't make the USA great. However, God will restore His blessings for choosing the strongest Christian after His own heart for president. Mike Huckabee is the closest to a King David running. David did God's will for the nation and God blessed Israel greatly," he added.
