'Daredevil' season 3 release date news: Season shelved in favor of 'Defenders' and 'The Punisher'?
Netflix is yet to renew "Daredevil" for season 3, but fans are confident that the man without fear will be back for another run, especially after its stellar second season that featured The Punisher (Jon Berthal).
However, reports say that although "Daredevil" season 3 is happening, the new season might not be released this year. Thankfully, the delay doesn't mean fans won't get their Daredevil fix for a while.
According to reports, Netflix will prioritize the "Defenders" mini-series, which features Daredevil (Charlie Cox) as well as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).
The "Defenders" miniseries has been planned even before "Daredevil" premiered. It is slated for a 2017 premiere, which means that everyone involved should be prepping up for the production.
"Daredevil" executive producers Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie will be showrunners of the "Defenders" miniseries while Drew Goddard, who created the "Daredevil" series, will be executive producer.
Since "Defenders" is expected to air this year, it is likely that the focus will be on that show first before "Daredevil" season 3. That being said, fans will be treated with the crossover series this year rather than the superhero in red's solo adventures.
Apart from the "Defenders" miniseries, another reason that "Daredevil" season 3 might be held further back is "The Punisher" spinoff, which is rumored to premiere April next year.
April is usually the month new "Daredevil" episodes drop so Netflix might be pushing season 3 to the backburner for now, since the hero will be in "Defenders" anyway.
In related news, there's a rumor going around that Netflix is further expanding its Marvel Cinematic Universe by with shows featuring Blade, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight.
There is no confirmation about it yet, but since Netflix has been working hard to make its Marvel world get bigger, this might not be far-fetched.
