'Daredevil' season 3 release date: Show said to be on hold until after 'The Defenders'
"Daredevil" seasons 1 and 2 are some of the highest-rated original shows on Netflix and it is highly speculated that a third season is on the way. However, as stated by Vine Report, Netflix is currently focusing on their other Marvel shows such as "The Defenders," "Luke Cage," "Iron Fist" and "Jessica Jones" season 2.
"The Defenders" is going to see all of the aforementioned heroes join together and this team will include Matt Murdock aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox). Given how these shows are being given priority and the fact that Daredevil will appear in "The Defenders," it is speculated "Daredevil" season 3 won't come out until long after "The Defenders" is launched.
If this proves true then season 3 may come out no sooner than late 2017.
Should season 3 indeed push through very little is known about the direction the showrunners and writers are going for. Season 2 ended with Matt and his friend Foggy (Elden Henson) going their separate ways, Elektra (Elodie Yung) killed and revived, and the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) roaming the streets to take down criminals.
However, according to a report from IGN, Kevin Smith is actively campaigning to direct an episode of "Daredevil." Smith recently directed an episode of "The Flash" season 2 and was a consultant on "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
Smith is widely known not only as a director but as a go-to advisor in geek culture, particularly for comic books. The director has worked on the "Daredevil" franchise before, having written a few graphic novels in the past.
Actor Charlie Cox also stated in an interview with Cinema Blend that season 3 may introduce the villain Bullseye. Bullseye is known for killing some of Daredevil's love interests and friends, hinting that if he is cast in "Daredevil" season 3 things might not go so well for Matt Murdoc's girlfriend, Karen (Deborah Ann Woll).
