Easter 2014: Big Easter egg hunts, Easter Parade & Bonnet Festival, and more NYC Events
This year's Easter Sunday celebrations will usher in a host of events. As Christians await the resurrection holiday that takes place on April 20, NYC will host a number of events that will prepare everyone for the spring season. Here are a list of some celebrations going on between Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival
Every Easter Sunday, New Yorkers sport their most unique bonnets and march up Fifth Avenue. The pageant has been a NYC tradition since the 1870s. This year's parade takes place at St. Patrick's Cathedral, beginning from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On April 20. The parade route stretches from E. 49th to E. 57th streets.
The Faberge Big Egg Hunt
NYC artists and architects are hosting their very own giant Easter Egg Hunt. Instead of hiding small eggs, this year the hunt will include over 260 large eggs designed by famous artists and architects, such as Tracy Emin and Jeff Koons. The eggs will be hard to hide because of their large size, so they have been carefully placed in plain site throughout NYC. Their artists are asking New Yorkers who participate to use the hashtag #thebigegghuntny.
The Faberge Big Egg Hunt has its own downloadable map also available through an app on mobile devices. Eggs will only be available until April 18, 2014 and prizes will be given out to those who identify them. The egg artwork will be auctioned at Sotheby's on April 22 to raise money for an animal conservation organization. Then they'll be put on display at Rockefeller Center through April 25. Money gathered from the event will help fund NYC's public schools visual arts program.
Abracadabra Easter Egg Hunt
Abracadabra, a NYC costume store, will be hosting an Easter egg hunt all weekend long. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19. The costume store will be closed Easter Sunday. The hunt is free and each egg will contain a prize inside. Some of these prizes include free sunglasses, 10 percent off a store purchase, fun accessories, and much more.

Spring Egg-Stravaganza
On Saturday, April 19, 12:00-1:30 p.m. and 2:00 -3:30 p.m., the Queens Botanical Garden at 43-50 Main Street near Dahlia Avenue will host an egg hunt. Admissions are $4 for adults, $2 for children ages 3 and up plus $5 per child. Participants are encouraged to bring a basket to search for eggs hidden under the garden's crabapple trees. Afterward, there will be crafts to enjoy, "face time" with Flora the Flower and a walk through the park's lush grounds.
