If rumors about Eva Mendez's return to the "Fast & Furious" franchise turn out to be true, then Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto will be caught in the middle of a love triangle in "Fast & Furious 8."
Recent reports claim that Mendez will reprise her role as undercover customs agent Monica Fuentes, who was first seen in "Too Fast, Too Furious" in 2003. At that time, Monica fell in love with Dom's partner Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker). But rumor has it that Monica will get involved with Dom, who is currently in a relationship with Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez).
However, Mendez still has to comment whether the rumored "Fast & Furious 8" casting is true or not.
Meanwhile, there are also reports claiming that Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren will join Jason Statham as one of the villains in the eighth installment in the multi-million dollar box-office hit series.
Statham was part of this year's record breaking blockbuster hit "Furious 7" when he portrayed the role of Deckard Shaw, the Special Forces assassin who aimed to avenge the condition of his brother Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Owen ended up in a coma after Brian shot him in 2013's "Fast & Furious 6" when he tried to kill Dom.
In a recent interview with the UK Blasting News, the British actor was reportedly excited to reprise his role in the film franchise.
"I'm a newcomer to the series, I just got invited to the party in this last movie. So it's nice to know that I'm going to be another. The second actor to confirm his return to the series is protagonist Vin Diesel," Statham said.
Mirren's participation in the series remains unconfirmed, and there is no information yet regarding the role that she will play.
In another news, "Orange Is The New Black" season 3 breakout star Ruby Rose recently revealed on the Today show that she auditioned for the previous "Furious 7" film, but she was turned down because one of the main cast members allegedly said that she looks like pop singer Justin Bieber.
However, Universal Studios is reportedly correcting that casting mistake. The film studio tried to contact the Australian actress for a role in a "Fast & Furious" spin-off focusing on Dwayne Johnson's character, Agent Luke Hobbs.
"Fast & Furious 8" is slated for release on April 14, 2017.
