Fast & Furious 8 release date, cast news: Eva Mendes makes comeback

Eva Mendez as she appears in 2 Fast 2 Furious Universal Pictures

Eva Mendes is reportedly set to make a comeback in Fast & Furious 8 as undercover agent Monica Fuentes.

It has been more than two months since F&F7 hit the big screens and now the focus is geared towards F&F8.

Who plays who in the eighth installment is a hot topic among fans of the movie franchise, and reports say that Mendes will reprise her role from F&F6.

Mendes first appeared in the 2003 franchise 2 Fast and 2 Furious. She also made a brief appearance in 2011 for Fast & Furious 5, where she reported that Letty Ortiz was alive and well.

Now, for the eighth installment, word goes around that Mendes' character will shake up the romance between Dominic (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), as reported by KpopStarz.

Meanwhile, Rodriquez hopes that the two women would avoid having a face off and "unite" instead.

According to a report from Metro, Rodriguez was asked how she feels about the plot and the casting, to which she responded "I think that first off, girls should stop fighting each other and we should start uniting for once."

She adds that everything is speculation until production begins.

Aside from Mendes, Rodriguez and Diesel, Kurt Russell will also come back for his role as Mr. Nobody.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will also return, together with Jason Statham.

Rumor has it that Cody, Paul Walker's brother, will also be joining the cast. Cody played as his brother's double in Furious 7.

Master Herald reports that interviews with Diesel reveal that the next Furious franchise will be set in New York City. Aside from that, the movie will give Russell a "meatier" role.

Fast & Furious 7 was directed by James Wan and he will also direct the eighth movie. Fast & Furious 8 is scheduled to hit the big screen on April 14, 2017.
