'Final Fantasy VII Remake' release date news: title still heading for release despite E3 no-show

"Final Fantasy VII" Square-Enix

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" was not shown at all during this past E3, and as stated by Ecumenical News, it has gotten some fans worried that Square-Enix may have canceled the title all together. Despite this, Parent Herald points out that the game is still coming and may even launch as early as next year.

According to Parent Herald, Square-Enix may simply have avoided showcasing "Final Fantasy VII Remake" given that the game is still in development and because the company still needs to focus all their attention on promoting "Final Fantasy XV," "World of Final Fantasy" and "Kingdom Hearts III."

Tetsuya Nomura designed the characters for the original game and is now the director along with Yoshinori Kitase, the original game's director, as producer. Nomura recently spoke with Famitsu (via KH Insider) to clear up that the company is working on upcoming announcements regarding some of their titles, including "Final Fantasy VII Remake."

"Next year is 'Kingdom Heart's' 15th anniversary and 'Final Fantasy 7's' twentieth anniversary, and I think I'll jazz things up for them," he explained. "At the next information releases, which will be this coming August at the 'KH' concert and the 'Dissidia Final Fantasy' tournament, I plan to start bringing more to light little by little, so I thank you in advance for your continued support."

This indicates that much more information regarding the remake is coming in August and perhaps a trailer to follow after the launch of "Final Fantasy XV" on Sept. 30. However, as only Nomura stated this it is unsure if Square-Enix is pushing forward with these plans. Square-Enix may delay their announcements until necessary.

"Final Fantasy VII" is often regarded as one of the best JRPG titles and was responsible for making the genre popular when it launched for the original PlayStation One. It was the first in the series to utilize 3D graphics and marked the franchise's shift from Nintendo consoles to the Playstation.
