George R.R. Martin previews 'Game of Thrones' adult coloring book
Fans of the "Game of Thrones" franchise are currently waiting for the release of George R.R. Martin's sixth novel, "The Winds of Winter" and are also counting down the months until the sixth season of the HBO series premieres.
Now, a new book is set to be released this month to fill the gap in the schedule for those who are desperate for anything "GoT" related, and many have begun to stock up on colored pencils and markers as the new book is a coloring book.
Martin took to his blog, Not a Blog, on Thursday, Oct. 1 to inform fans about the coloring book called "The Official A Game of Thrones Coloring Book" and said that the new book is something that grown-ups who love to color will surely enjoy.
"It seems that of late adult coloring books have become quite a thing, so Bantam wanted us to do one too," he wrote. "I love seeing good fantasy art, I was of course thrilled by the idea."
Adult coloring books are enjoying a surge in popularity all around the world nowadays, and some titles have even made it to Amazon's best sellers list. This week, two adult coloring books have made it to the website's top 20 list—Johanna Basford's "Secret Garden," and "Stress Relieving Patterns" from Blue Star Coloring. It is believed that coloring can be a stress reliever for adults who want to relax at the end of the day and a good way to do something creative.
The "Game of Thrones" adult coloring book features 45 original illustrations by Yvonne Gilbert, John Howe, Tomislav Tomic, Adam Stower, and Levi Pinfold. Martin revealed on his blog that the coloring book is not based on the HBO series, so fans shouldn't expect an illustration of Cersei to look a lot like actress Lena Headey.
"Yes, this one derives from the books, not the show," wrote Martin as a response to a fan who asked if the drawings are based on the first book of the series.
Fans also joked about Martin's tendency to kill off favorite characters as some wrote they are going to need red crayons and pencils soon.
"I have a feeling that I will need many different shades of red for this," one fan wrote.
And while many are truly excited about the coloring book, no blog post of Martin's is complete without at least one fan asking if "The Winds of Winter" will be released soon.
A fan wrote, "Will the publishers be printing 'Winds of Winter' as well?" to which the author simply replied, "When it's done."
"The Game of Thrones" coloring book will be released on Oct. 27.
