Justin Bieber explains new song 'What Do You Mean' after Lena Dunham criticism
A lot of people might be raving about Canadian singer Justin Bieber's new song "What Do You Mean," but "Girls" star Lena Dunham isn't a fan of the song.
In fact, she thinks that the song's lyrics might even be promoting rape culture. She took to Twitter (@lenadunham) to voice out her concern: "Let's do away with pop songs where a girl nods yes when she means no and vice versa, k?"
Dunham did not specify which song she was dissing, but it was clearly Bieber's "What Do You Mean" since its lyrics go: "What do you mean? / When you nod your head yes / But you wanna say no / What do you mean?"
But according to Bieber, the song is simply his way of trying to understand the complicated way girls think. During his interview with Ryan Seacrest on the show "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," Bieber explained: "Well, girls are often just flip-floppy. They say something and they mean something else. So ... what do you mean? I don't really know, that's why I'm asking."
He said the song is "fun and summery," adding that he worked on the single with a guy named Poo Bear. He said it's actually very similar to his last hit single "Where Are U Now," so he is pretty sure that fans would love it.
"It's really uplifting, clear, poppy, but cool," Bieber also said.
Bieber's most popular failed romance was with fellow singer and actress Selena Gomez. Even though they broke up several years ago and have moved on with their respective lives, people are still finding ways to link the two together. Many fans have even spotted Selena's name written in graffiti in Bieber's music video for "What Do You Mean," and have surmised that Bieber wants her back.
