Kelly Clarkson does a gospel version of Taylor Swift's hit song 'Shake It Off' [VIDEO]
Kelly Clarkson covered the Taylor Swift hit "Shake It Off" during a concert in Buffalo on Saturday, and did it with a gospel twist.
A fan video recorded the "American Idol" star treating her fans to the surprising cover version that brought "a little Jesus into the night."
"This is a church song, this is a soulful song. This is one of my favorite songs out right now," Clarkson began. "C'mon, Jesus, help me," she added as she was trying to find the correct key.
The 32-year-old belted out a slowed down, soaring version of the first verse of "Shake It Off" before the familiar beat kicked in. The audience sang along to the encouraging song that encourages listeners to dismiss naysayers and simply shake off their worries.
"I love that song," Clarkson admitted after the performance. "And I love the like, church version. It's probably blasphemy, but that's ok. I might be going to hell, but it ain't for that," she said, laughing.
Swift also enjoyed the "church version" of her No. 1 single.
"Watching Kelly Clarkson SLAY 'Shake It Off' is an excellent way to celebrate 26 HOURS TIL 1989!!!!!!" she tweeted Saturday night, promoting the fifth studio album she released Monday.
Clarkson responded a few hours later.
"Love this song!" she wrote. "Hope you like our gospel beginning ha! We had fun with it! Congrats on the new album coming out girl!"
Swift's 1989 also features her singles "Welcome to New York" and the critically-acclaimed "Out of the Woods." The album is also her first exclusively pop project, excluding country music records entirely.
"I decided to be honest about it, and upfront about the fact that this is me switching lanes," she told The Tennessean in a recent interview. "To say I 'left' country music sounds very harsh. It's just a change in artistic direction."
