Michael Schumacher coma: Son says dad is 'waking up very slowly', racer 'still fighting'
Michael Schumacher's 15-year old racer son Mick told racing commentator Jean-Louis Moncet that his father is gradually recovering as he confirmed that the 45-year old racing superstar is "waking up very slowly".
"I saw his son and he told me that Schumi is waking up very slowly; very slowly," Moncet told Europe 1 radio, as reported by The Independent.
"Although things are going at a slow pace, he has a lot of time, I would say he has his whole life in front of him to get back on track," he added.
Moncet also revealed that the racing champion suffers from his condition mainly after he allegedly fell on the GoPro camera mounted on his head, inflicting severe brain injuries. The accident happened last year in Maribel Resort in France. It was also in the same country that Schumacher was nursed for six critical months.
Two months ago, Schumacher was discharged from a rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland to reunite with his family. He is currently being tended by 15 medical professionals at a special medical suite in his Swiss mansion. His care is reported to cost $185,000 a month.
Fans continue to show their support for their well-loved race champ, passing on encouragement with one another. Daily Mail reports that although the racer is currently on "a long and hard road" to recovery, Ferrari boss Jean Todt updated and helped Schumacher's large horde of devotees go through the situation with his heartening words about their hero.
"In the past weeks and months, he has made progress in relation to the severity of his injury," Todt was quoted as saying after his September visit. "We must assume that Schumacher can lead a relatively normal life again within a short period of time. We can say he can probably never drive a Formula 1 car again. But he is fighting. His condition improved, and what is just as important is the fact that he is now at home with his family."
Schumacher's son, Mick, is open to plans on pursuing a sporting career in racing, just like his father. The budding racer won second place in his two most recent junior kart racing championships in France and Germany.
