'Real Housewives of New York' season 7 casting rumors: Sonja Morgan the new casting director?

"Real Housewives of New York" season 7 will have a major makeover, according to latest reports. How big is this makeover and why does it have to be done?

According to RadarOnline.com, Sonja Morgan is the new casting director for the show and is now hunting for new housewives to join the new season.

A source spilled the beans to Radar, saying, "Sonja is a favorite of the network right now." The source added: "... so executives have been talking about developing a new cast around her. And she's actively looking and bringing friends in right now."

This major makeover might just mean that every housewife in the last season is getting the boot, except for Bravo's favorite NY housewife Morgan. What about Ramona Singer? Isn't her marriage meltdown a good material to work with in the coming season. However, the source said even Singer might be axed.

"Ramona is the one most likely on chopping block. There's not much more they can do to her. Her storyline is creating a show that reminds the fans of what it is not," says the Radar source.

This isn't the first big-time axing of the cast members of the show. Just two years ago, four housewives were fired all at the same time. Those housewives were Alex McCord, Cindy Barshop, Kelly Bensimon and Jill Zarin. Why the shake-up anyway?

The source said "The New York Housewives" franchise has lost its feel. "They wanted to keep some nostalgia to the show, which is why they kept Sonja and Ramona. But even with the new cast, it's not fresh and it's a problem. It's not working."

"They are 100 percent revamping it because it's not performing and the new characters aren't translating. So they're looking at everyone and all options," the source added.

True enough, Carole Radziwill, Kristen Taekman, LuAnn de Lesseps, Heather Thomson and even Aviva Drescher are getting fired for lacking to bring drama to the table. Drescher was described as being a super-diva and making many demands.
