Source Of Every Hour - the new album from Cathy Burton

February will kick off with a brand new, much anticipated album from one of the UK Christian scene’s most enduring artists, Cathy Burton.

Never one to stand still, Cathy returns with an album of self-penned songs soaked in intimate, honest, powerful worship. With tracks like the incredible ‘Redeemer’, ‘Songs of Healing’ and ‘Cling To The Cross’, Cathy proves once more that her skills are as wide as they are deep.

Yet this is no late arrival at the party. The currents of worship have been at work in Cathy for decades, way before the days of commercial success, mainstream tours, co-writes with the likes of Rikki Ross (Deacon Blue) and Paul Statham (Kylie Minogue, Dido).

“When I became a Christian at 14,” Cathy explains, “I was one of two girls that played the guitar and so would lead the singing right from being saved.”

Years of honing the craft of the songwriter have added to that raw expression of worship, giving Cathy the ability to create songs that help worshippers connect with God in a deeper, more authentic way.

That authenticity only grows over time and in the soil of local church. For Cathy, years spent leading worship at Arun Community Church (Littlehampton), St Mary’s Bryanstone Square (London) and Grace Church Chichester have meant that her songs are not written in an attempt to guess what currents are at play within a particular congregation; instead her songs come from the very heart of a community of believers.

“When we started at Grace Church Chichester there were only thirty of us in the church and three of us in the worship team. There was no choice other than to roll your sleeves up and get involved,” Cathy explains.

As well as locally, Cathy has been leading for many years at events like Spring Harvest and Greenbelt, where her solo material has encouraged, inspired and led many. Cathy has also been a regular alongside worship leaders at Soul Survivor, New Wine and others, providing backing vocals and helping to lead thousands in worship.

Part of the journey that Cathy has been on has been the physical one, as a couple of years ago Cathy and family moved church, work and home to Chichester, where they joined Grace Church Chichester (a church plant, now three years old). From there Cathy played a key role building a worship team in the creation and recording of the Redeemer album – an organic, intimate worship record that showcased brilliantly the home-grown worship that has emerged from Grace Church Chichester.

Moving to Chichester and joining the new church unlocked something in Cathy.

She concludes: “Being at Grace Church, I've felt encouraged and supported to really have a go at writing songs for our church, because until now I've been a little too scared to try, because I know the bar is high.”

Source of Every Hour is the album she hopes will clear that bar.
