Speculations suggest that the sequel will pick up where the "The Last of Us" game left off, only this time, Ellie will be all by herself in scouring the post-apocalyptic wastelands and trying to find the cure to the virus. There are rumors that the sequel will open with Ellie confronting Joel about her rescue, which the latter instigated without her knowledge, as Joel learned that in order to come out with a possible cure, Ellie has to die. As with the original game, Ellie will also be central to the story, since "The Last of Us" built up her supposed immunity to the virus.
