Tom Clancy's The Division: Release date unconfirmed but sure to have 2015 rollout
Ubisoft's press conference at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo told everyone of the release of a new game called "Tom Clancy's The Division" in 2015. Along with the announcement is a demo footage of what it will look like. Capsule Computers mentioned that Some people who were there to watch the demo immediately concluded that the game "does it so much better than Destiny" and that "Bungie is in a lot of trouble". In the video, it was revealed that Manhattan is one of the game's settings and New York will be its focus. Capsule Computers also mentioned a "dark and foreboding, the domineering, yet awe-inspiring image of a long-deserted Madison Square Garden".
To keep up with the audience expectation about the game throwing the game Destiny out the window, Ubisoft Technical Director Anders Holmquist thought it practical to use of an engine called Snowdrop, made personally by their team.
"By having our own engine, we can focus on the areas that we think are important and build the tools and the features we need to create a fully immersive New York City in a state of emergency and chaos," Holmquist explains in the 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC).
"We are trying to recreate the most detailed New York City ever shown in a video game. Snowdrop has many different tools that make it possible. With the building tech for example, we can create a huge, diverse, and detailed city, starting with just a limited amount of building blocks," he added.
The new title is a multiplayer third-person shooter game in a post-apocalyptic setting. It will revolve around the Operation Dark Winter and Directive 51, where United States was paralyzed by a disease on black Friday in as short as five days. To conquer the game, players will have to team up in fighting the epidemic.
Capsule Computers noted that the finished product may not feature any cutscenes but rather allow the "Echo" reconstructions to unfold the plot. It also added that an "awesome" 3D map
To perfect the upcoming title, Massive, Reflections, and Red Storm Entertainment developers moved the launch from the end of 2014 to 2015 to make room for further graphic enhancements. As reported by Moviepilot, the team aims for visual prowess to pull off a definitive look for Tom Clancy's The Division on the PS4 and Xbox One.
"We use a screen-space anti-aliasing technique with custom in-house additions. We're also continually looking at improving what we have," Holmquist said via Moviepilot.
Tom Clancy's The Division will be released in Playstation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in 2015.
