The Xbox One is still in its prime but in a few years it will be replaced by the Xbox Two, as newer technology allows for better games to be developed. According to a report from Value Walk, analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities explained that it is likely the Xbox Two will launch by 2019.

It was previously believed that the Xbox Two will launch by 2018 but the analyst explained that this may not be the case. Instead, he said that the release of the console may be delayed, although the exact specifics as to how or why the delay will occur were not explained.

Fans speculate that more time is being invested to allow the Xbox One and its competitor, the Sony PlayStation 4, to take advantage of the budding VR technology. Both consoles will release peripherals that integrate virtual reality technology and it is likely that the consoles will take advantage of the hype before moving on to their successors.

Pachter also explained that Microsoft will likely launch the Xbox Two ahead of the PlayStation 5. The Xbox One was launched a few months ahead of the PlayStation 4, and because of it this, the console enjoyed a significant sales advantage during the early years of their current run.

Despite this, Pachter stated that both the Xbox Two and the PlayStation 5 will be out before the turn of the decade.

If the analysis turns out to be true then the Xbox One and PlayStation 4's lifespans will mirror those of their predecessors, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, which both had approximately seven years on the market before the spotlight was shifted to their successors. 

The report continues to state that old consoles tend to get another three years even after being replaced, meaning the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will get a total of 10 years of support before being completely phased out.
