108-yr-old man says secret to long life is 'all God'

A man in New York celebrated his 108th birthday on Saturday, and gave all glory to God for sustaining him.

Duranord Veillard celebrated his birthday with family at his Spring Valley home, and shared his tips for a long life with reporters.

"He will tell you the secret to living a long life is all God," a family friend told ABC News. "He says that God has preserved him so well and he wishes that everyone can live a long life as he did."

Veillard also maintains a healthy diet and exercise regimen. The centenarian wakes up at 5am, completes five to seven pushups, eats oatmeal and fruit, and drinks tea.

"He does daily exercises in his chair, every single day," a family friend, Amalie Thomas, said.

Fish and vegetables make up the rest of the senior's meals, and he takes frequent naps.

Veillard's wife, Jeanne, will be 105 on May 1. The couple met in Haiti and married in 1932. Over their 82-year marriage, they have enjoyed five children, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

"I don't know how they do it but he's very alert," she said of Veillard. "He remembers dates. He can tell you the day he got married. Jeanne is a little bit more quiet and laid-back."

"He remembers everything," their son, Vely, confirmed.

"Look at him! He don't want to use a cane. He's a superstar."

Veillard has some trouble with his eyesight and hearing, but enjoys the media attention the combined 212-year-old couple has received.

"They're like, 'Who is next. What question are you going to ask?'" Thomas reported. "They're very excited."

The oldest living American female is 116-year-old Gertrude Weaver of Arkansas, and the oldest American male is 111-year-old James Richardson of Alabama.
