After his massive success with Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok," actor Chris Hemsworth's next movie has already stood out. "12 Strong" is a war drama film starring Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, and more. This movie will premiere on Jan. 18, 2018.

The Thor actor will lay down his hammer and then pick up a gun as Captain Mitch Nelson. The movie is based on the non-fiction book titled "Horse Soldiers" written by Doug Stanton. The plot of the movie is about the deployment of Task Force Dagger to Afghanistan after the 9/11 attack in New York City. The military force consists of CIA soldiers and a 12-member team US Special Force. Hemsworth will lead the team as they pursue the Taliban with the help of the Northern Alliance group led by General Abdul Rashid Dostum (Navid Negahban).

There is no information if the movie will fully follow the chapters in the book or if it will add new angles. The novel was commended by critics for its execution and thorough research. The trailer released by Warner Bros. Pictures revealed a fast-paced war movie that includes a lot of explosions and horses.

Hemsworth's wife, Elsa Pataky, is also part of the cast as Nelson's wife. "12 Soldiers" will be directed by Danish Director Nicolai Fuglsig. Emmy Award winner Jerry Bruckheirmer will also serve as one of the movie's producers alongside Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill, and Trent Luckinbill.

Hemsworth already had experience with a war film. He was the leading character in the 2012 American war film "Red Dawn" directed by Dan Bradley. However, "12 Soldiers" is on a whole new level with the storyline taking a stronger threat and forcing US soldiers into the foreign territory with 50,000 enemies. The cast members are also forced to learn how to ride horses to fully maximize the book's story.

Hemsworth, together with the entire cast and crew are hoping for a big success in 2018.
