The Netflix adaptation of the best-selling book "13 Reasons Why" has received mixed reviews from viewers, especially on the issue of teenage suicide, but it also has garnered a lot of fans. While the finale suggested that the plot ends there, people seem to want more and it turns out that the fans are not the only ones who want to see a continuation of the story. Jay Asher, the author of the young adult novel, expressed that he would also want to see more.

"13 Reasons Why" follows the story of high school student Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who commits suicide in her junior year. The series focuses on her recording and leaving behind — prior to her death — 13 tapes that contain the explanation of such decision to end her life. Although Hannah's story is over, as shown in the final episode, there are still several questions that need to be answered, especially with the other characters' stories left open-ended.

"I'd just like a continuation of all those characters," the author told Entertainment Weekly. "I'm curious as well. What happens to Clay? How do people react to what Alex did at the very end? What's going to happen to Mr. Porter? I'd thought of a sequel at some point. I'd brainstormed it, but decided I wasn't going to write it. So I'd love to see it."

The author also said that he could not confirm or deny if season 2 of the Netflix adaptation is indeed in the works, but he explained that the finale did not open any doors for subsequent episodes. "Things weren't left open in the hopes of a sequel . . . There is no end for the characters left behind. Every action we have is going to have repercussions in ways we could not anticipate," he said.

"13 Reasons Why" season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement regarding a sequel.
