General Motors has been able to win two of the main Motor Trends awards this year, scooping up the Truck of the Year with its 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and the Car of the Year award with the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. According to Motor Trend, the latter impresses with its lighter yet more powerful design.

The 2016 Camaro SS trim is built with a powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine capable of 455 horsepower and 455 foot-pound of torque. This is then paired with either a 6-gear manual transmission or the new 8-gear automatic transmission. One major innovation is that the 6-speed manual vehicle is clutchless, allowing for smoother and quicker shift transition.

All this power and the new sleek design, which reportedly makes the 2016 model several hundred pounds lighter than its predecessors, allows the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro to go from 0 mph to 60 mph in a matter of just 4.0 seconds. The only listed downside is that all this power will consume fuel pretty fast and the car does rate for 24 MPG.

It also features a center console that allows drivers to switch to different driving modes depending on what kind of road they are traveling on. As explained in a report from Cheat Sheet, these driving modes include "tour," "winter," "sport" and "track."

The report does state that while the exteriors and interiors are pleasant to the eye and are all very well-organized and sleek, it is hard to distinguish the 2016 model from previous incarnations and even from the concept build. This might lead to consumers assuming that the vehicle is just a minor upgrade from older versions of the Camaro.

It also supports AT&T's 4G/LTE network and there is also a wireless charging pad on the car's center console. It features up to eight airbags for optimal safety and it is also designed to include General Motor's OnStar suit convenience systems.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS with the 6.2-liter V8 engine and additional features will reportedly come at a $40,000 average price tag while the lower trims may be available within a $23,000 to $27,000 range.
