The new Porsche Boxster recently received a redesign, and as stated by Digital Trends, the upcoming 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman will also get a similar do-over. According to the report, the new design allows the 718 Cayman to be an entirely different car if not for the similar exterior design.

As stated, the car takes the "718" designation that is often given to professional race cars, indicating that the new Cayman is going to be lighter and faster than previous iterations. The 718 Cayman replaces its old 6-cylinder engine with a brand new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces up to 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

The Cayman S trim will come with a more powerful 2.5-liter engine that pushes up to 350 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. Both engine options come with rear-wheel power and six-speed manual transmission although there is the option for a PDK dual-clutch automatic.

According to the report, if the car has both the PDK transmission as well as the optional Sport Chrono package it will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 170 miles per hour.  The 718 Cayman S tops this with a 0 to 60 mph speed of 4.0 seconds and top speed at 177 mph.

The car will also come with a lot of built-in accessories and driver-assistance such as the Available Porsche Active Suspension Management and the standard parking assistance modules.

It is also noted that while not visible at first glance there are a few exterior design changes that allow the 2017 model to stand out from previous iterations. The interiors have been remodeled as well and the dashboard now includes Apple CarPlay and the Porsche Communication Management infotainment board.

The 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman is expected to launch in the U.S. this coming November and the base model has a suggested retail price of $54,950 while the Cayman S is priced at $67,350.
