There's still some time left before the updated version of the new BMW Series 5 is launched at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show but even this early, fans are already excited to know what to expect from the car.

While this piece of information may come as good news for some, there were those who were disappointed as they expected the car to be launched this October at the Paris Motor Show.

But BMW is expected to make wait worth it as the new car is set to use a range of carbon fibre chassis components which will make it lightweight but strong. This serves a double purpose as the material is lightweight to reduce the car's weight and promote better speed yet these elements are strong which guarantees its durability, reported Carwow UK.

According to the BMW blog, the 2017 BMW Series 5 will take some inspiration from the BMW 7 Series in terms of design, adopting the larger set of kidney grilles that are connected to the sides by the headlights. The car will also feature more elongated shape for its corona rings.

Series 5 will also be taking its design cue from the Series 7 for the taillights but some modifications are expected which will be more similar to the BMW X6.

It is rumored that the new version will feature character lines on the sides of the car add character to the car, and make it look more sleek and sporty compared to its predecessor.

In terms of size, the new car is expected to be bigger than the outgoing model.

It is also rumored to be adopting gesture control features for the iDrive infotainment system.

While it is still not confirmed, the new Series 5 may come with advanced autonomous driving technology.

The Detroit Auto Show 2017 is expected to take place on January 2017 at Cobo Center.
