Nissan's new body-on-frame SUV, Terra, has been leaked ahead of its official debut. The upcoming vehicle was spotted completely undisguised while testing on the streets of China.

Though the Japanese automaker is known to be working on a new seven-seat SUV, it has yet to confirm the vehicle's official nameplate. Previously, the vehicle has been speculated to be called Xterra, named after the U.S.-spec SUV that was retired in 2015; Paladin, the vehicle's Japanese name; and Terra, based on a 2012 concept vehicle.

Now, leaked photos have more or less confirmed that the upcoming vehicle will indeed be called the Terra.

The 2018 Nissan Terra will be built using the same platform as the NP300 Navara pickup truck. In terms of design, leaked photos suggest that it will have a rugged yet stylish appearance. The front fascia seemingly features a more prominent version of Nissan's signature V-Motion grille alongside angular headlights and chrome accents. Meanwhile, the rear will most likely have a larger tailgate and wraparound taillights.

The China-spec model is said to be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 183 horsepower. Later on, 158-horsepower and 187-horsepower turbodiesel powertrains are expected to be offered in the range. The all-new SUV will be available with either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drive system.

The upcoming vehicle is also slated to come with the latest technologies, comfort features and a suite of safety systems.

Once launched, Nissan's SUV is expected to compete with other seven-seaters such as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Montero Sport, among others.

The Nissan Terra is scheduled to make its official debut at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2018. It will be initially sold in China with other regions to follow. However, there is no word yet if the all-new SUV will be sold in the U.S. market.
