Volkswagen has slashed the price of the 2018 Tiguan. Depending on the compact crossover's trim, prospective customers may be able to benefit from a significant discount of over $2,000.

According to Automotive News, the price cuts were detailed in a letter that Volkswagen sent to dealers last week. The automaker said it would be reducing the price of the 2018 Tiguan's base S trim by $600, the mid-range SE trim by $2,180 and the SEL trim by $1,460. The price of the range-topping SEL Premium trim, on the other hand, remains unchanged.

The notice added that the change in prices would be effective immediately and that the new Monroney stickers for existing inventory will be mailed to dealerships. In a statement to Cars.com, Volkswagen said that the price cuts were an effort "to conquest customers in the compact SUV segment."

As a result of the price cut, the 2018 Tiguan S trim will now have a starting price of $25,495. It comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone integration ad LED daytime running lights.

he 2018 Tiguan SE trim, with a new starting price of $27,650, comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, blind spot monitor and leatherette seats. Meanwhile, the 2018 Tiguan SEL trim, now priced at $31,990 adds navigation, adaptive cruise control and remote start.

For $37,150, customers can avail of the 2018 Tiguan SEL Premium, which comes with LED headlights, a digital cockpit and leather seats.

Regardless of the trim, the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the vehicle comes standard with a front-wheel-drive system.

For customers that are interested in the all-wheel-drive system, they will have to pay an additional $1,300.

Volkswagen will also continue to sell the previous-generation Tiguan Limited for $22,860. The two-row compact crossover will be the designated entry-level model.

All starting prices mentioned are inclusive of a $900 delivery charge.
