2014's "22 Jump Street," the sequel to the 2012 reboot of "21 Jump Street," ended with a montage of false sequels such as "24 Jump Street: Foreign Exchange Student" and "2121 Jump Street." A new report now indicates those fake sequels could find their way into the real "23 Jump Street," which was announced back in September 2014. 

According to a report by Topless Robot, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed a few hints on what fans could expect from the next film in the franchise during a panel at WonderCon.

"We've found a way that we love that makes those imagined sequels canonical and yet does something that we haven't told you about yet," Lord told the crowd. "The sequels are canon." 

Miller and Lord have not confirmed that they would return as the directing duo, but they are sitting in as producers. Rodney Rothman is penning the script, while both Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are returning as lead characters Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko, respectively. 

According to an interview cited by SlashFilm, Lord mentioned that Rothman was looking into a way to use the fake sequels while also introducing something that was not featured in the "22 Jump Street" ending montage to tie things neatly into the next chapter of the franchise. 

SlashFilm speculates that this could result in a story where Schmidt and Jenko would go undercover as film students. Staying in a film school would give them ample resources for those false sequels without breaking the reality of the film's plot and setting. This is further enforced by the fact that the ending montage of false sequels does not include a "23 Jump Street: Film School" parody, working in coherence with Lord's statement regarding Rothman's work on the script.
