With every year comes new adventures that we will all face. While we might feel excited and giddy for the new things that God is preparing for us, it's a fact that no one knows what tomorrow brings. Proverbs 27:1 counsels us wisely,

"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."

Many men today, whether single or married, are unsure about the things they will do in the following year. While many of us make plans, a great many of us aren't even sure if the plans we make will ever push through. To this, we often say the line, "if the Lord wills it, then I'll do it."

I am writing this article to all my fellow men out there, especially husbands. We are called to leadership, whether in our homes or in our communities. God wants all of us to shine our light in the people's eyes so they may see God in what we do. We are tasked to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ into all the world, and lead the people to Him.

Yet, despite all the clear instructions given to us through God's Word, many of us remain unsure about what we will do, what we will pursue, and what we will desire. Some of us even feel jittery thinking about the coming year because we don't know what we will do in it.

Can you relate to that? Are you confused as to what you will be doing next year, and are looking for a clear sign or indication of what God wants you to do? If you said yes, here are a few things you need to keep in mind as you seek.

1) You've got to trust God

The best decisions in life are those made in obedience and trust in God. Proverbs 3:5-6 says,

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

When we trust in God and follow Him, He will never fail to direct our paths. The Lord Jesus Himself said in John 10:27-28,

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand."

Who wouldn't want to follow a loving God who gives life and will not allow anyone to steal them away from Him?

2) Realize that double-mindedness will get you nowhere

Many of us don't know what to do because we can't make up our minds. We have ideas, we have at least an inkling of what God calls us to do, but because we can't make up our minds whether to do it or not we end up staying afloat in indecision.

Friends, double-mindedness can't take us anywhere we should be. Doubting God's call for us according to His word doesn't just make us disobey Him, we also prevent ourselves from receiving His best! James 1:6-8 tells us,

"But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways."

3) You've got to make a choice

Many of us don't know what to do because we don't have ideas. On the other hand, many of us don't know what to do because we don't know what choice to make. We spend a lot of time weighing our options and end up losing so much time.

Friends, we've got to learn to make choices. Not just any choice, but the right choice, every time we decide. As a rule of thumb, let's obey God's command in Joshua 1:8:

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
