3 Prayers to say for your children

Do churches really need mission statements?Pixabay

Your children are your blessings from the Lord and you love them with all your heart. However, you also acknowledge that you do not have the power to protect them at all times. It's every parent's worry that their kids are always safe and that they grow up learning the right things. As long as you do your job as a parent, God will do the rest. For some peace of mind and comfort, lean on these three prayers for your child.

Prayer for A Worried Parent

Dear Lord,

I feel so burdened. My heart is heavy and my mind is racing. I want to be strong for my child. I want to push past anxiety, fear, and despair, so I can face this situation with peace, wisdom, and the hope of eternal life.

Please, Lord, fix my eyes on You. Keep me mindful of the big picture. When my mind wanders to the future – and worst case scenarios – reign me in the present. Remind me that Jesus exists in the present, and focusing my attention on today will reveal the little blessings and large blessings designed to help us through this trial.

You love my child more than I do, Lord, and I trust you with her life. I know you work all things together for good for those who love You. Please give her the stamina to handle this trial and the faith to endure it. Help her hear Your voice, feel Your presence, and impact the faith of others as she faces this hardship with humility, grace, and confidence in You.

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. - Crosswalk

It's only natural for a parent to be worried about his/her child, but when you're worrying becomes a burden already, that's when you know that this must not go on like this. Pray to the Lord, lift up your worries, and believe that God will take care of your child and keep him/her safe. Not only that, pray that the Lord will help your child endure any hardship or trial, and learn to lean on God as well.

Prayer for Understanding

Lord, may (your child's name) know your will and understand what is right because of your law. May (your child's name) not copy the behavior and the customs of this world, but be transformed into a new person through changed thoughts and through knowing your perfect and pleasing will. Amen – Tricia Goyer

You can't always tell your child what to do. Children have a mind of their own already and you have to trust that what you teach them is enough for them to make the right decisions in the world. Continue praying for the Lord's guidance for you and your children.

Prayers for the Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Lord, I pray that you would give them a spirit of power, love, and sound mind. - Based on 2 Timothy 1:7

My grandmother once told me that she always prayed for children, especially those without a mother. I asked why and she said because how can God resist a prayer of a mother for her child? It struck a chord with me. It made so much sense. Mothers always want the best for their children and God knows a mother's intention all the time.

This goes the same for fathers as well. The point is, parents must not stop praying for their children in the good and bad times. Pray that the fruits of the Holy Spirit envelope our child's heart, that he/she will not fear but find strength in the Lord. It is important to train them to be strong warriors of God as early as possible.

You can use these prayers as ideas on how to start or go about your prayer. But remember, the most important prayer comes from the heart. Use your own words in your prayer, express yourself the best way you can. Tell the Lord all your thoughts and feelings. And even if you cannot put them into words, think about what you want to say, the Lord hears you either way. Always pray for your child. A parent's prayer always matters.
