All of us Christians have been called by God. Contrary to how some might perceive it, the word "calling" isn't for a select "elite few" in the church. Rather, it's for all of us who have responded to the saving grace of God which was given to us in the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe it.

Here are some things that God has called us to.

1. God has called us to partner with Christ

"God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." (1 Corinthians 1:9)

This is such a great honour. God has called all who are in Christ to partner with Christ, to fellowship with Him. Think about it. This is such a great honour.

All who are in Christ are called to be both God's children and Christ's ambassadors. We are given a genuine love relationship with God as our Father and us as His sons and daughters. Because of this relationship we are also given the honour of being Christ's partner in saving the world: with Him as our Lord and Saviour, and us as His messengers bringing His gospel of salvation to the ends of the earth.

Not only is Christ our friend; He is also Lord of our lives, giving us the purpose for living.

2. God has called us to freedom

"For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love." (Galatians 5:13)

Friends, we have been called to freedom – freedom from sin and slavery. We have been called to live freed from fear, from oppression, and more than that, from being orphaned from God because of our sins.

God has called us to be free to love Him and serve Him, and to serve others and do good to them in love. We can now love God and others without fear or trying to be approved and appreciated by them because in Christ we are free.

3. God has called us to live holy lives

"For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus." (2 Timothy 1:9)

God saved us through Christ so that we may live a holy life, one that is set apart for His pleasure. No, we don't strive to be holy to be accepted by God. Rather, it's the opposite: because of Christ's sacrifice, God is able to accept all who repent. And a product of that repentance is a continued pursuit of holiness, which is our part, and sanctification, which is God's work in us through the Holy Spirit.
