Free Slurpee Day 2013: 7-Eleven increases free slurpees to bigger 12 ounce cup on July 11 annual event
It's July 11th and 7-Eleven's annual Free Slurpee Day is here!
The convenient store's 86th anniversary will be celebrated with free Slurpees, which will be available all across America in participating stores between 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.
One free Slurpee will be given per customer. In the past, 7- Eleven gave a 7.11 ounce free Slurpee, but this year, the chain is giving out its usual small size Slurpee – 12 ounces.
Laura Gordon, vice president of marketing and innovation for 7-Eleven, told USA Today that the reason for the increase in size is because moms started asking for lids. "Moms asked us for cups with lids. That means less mess in the car."
7-Eleven estimates that it will give away 7 million Slurpees today. Customers visiting 7-Eleven are expected to dole out cash on other snacks such as beef jerky and hot dogs. Sales of the Slurpees are expected to rise 40 percent as well, as many customers not satisfied with just a small cup of Slurpee are likely to purchase another.
