Christmas is one of those times in the year where we often think of the Lord Jesus Christ, how He was born, and how grateful we are for His coming. We usually spend Christmas attending a service in church, spending meaningful time with family, and giving gifts and warm smiles to our neighbors.

Christmas is often associated to the spirit of giving. Many people, Christian or not, give what they can to the needy. What happens is that people tend to focus on the gifts and the cheer, forgetting who Christmas really is about: Christ.

To help all of us get to know the Lord Jesus Christ better, here are a few Bible verses we should meditate on this Christmas Day.

His mission to save all men - John 3:16-17

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

Christ came to earth on a rescue mission. He came not to be served, but to serve. The God of all creation came in the form of a servant to save us, and that is who He is: a loving God.

The reward for believing and not believing in Him - John 3:18

"He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Salvation comes only through Christ. We can't treat Him like a Christmas ornament and expect to be saved. Unless we believe in Him, we will never be saved.

What He does - John 10:9-11

"I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep."

Christ's work is in direct opposition to the enemy's work. He gave His life for us to be saved. He made Himself of no reputation to serve. He became poor so that we might be made rich. All that we have is His.

He shows us the Father - John 14:7-11

""If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him."

Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us."

Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves."

Christ is the exact representation of the Father. Anybody who wishes to know the Father can simply look at Christ and see who God really is. He is love personified, grace in tangible form, and mercy that we can experience firsthand.

The task He gave and will require of us - Matthew 28:18-20

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen."

Christ came to save us, and now we have been given the task of bringing the message of salvation to those who haven't heard it. Christ wants us to pass on all that He taught according to the Word. As His followers, we are also His ambassadors presenting Him to others.
