As we remember how Jesus died for our sins, it's natural for our thoughts to turn to our individual wrongdoings. Throughout Lent, Catholics are encouraged to take part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and confess their sins and reconcile with God and the church. For Christians who don't take participate in this sacrament, repentance is still a necessary act, and not just during the Easter period. Acknowledging our wrongs and seeking forgiveness for them isn't an easy feat, whether we're doing it during confessional with priest, to a trusted companion or to God. But no matter how hard we find it, studying repentance as instructed throughout Scripture enables us to grasp why it's so essential. Once we truly recognise the significance of repentance, we can take steps to ensure that it's we regularly practice it within our spiritual lives.

Because the idea of owning up to having done something wrong, expressing genuine remorse and asking for forgiveness can leave us looking for a way out, it's common for us to have lots of questions about how we do all of these things. How do I confess my sins? When should I confess my sins? What do I have to confess? What if I don't feel I have anything to confess? The following Bible verses answer all these questions and more, and instruct us how to approach confession.

2 Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
