The first-person adventure Virtual Reality video game "Adr1ft" by Three One Zero and 505 Games will not be released on the Xbox One.

This was confirmed by game creator Adam Orth on Twitter in a response to a fan who tweeted him about having pre-ordered the game for the Microsoft console.

"That's not real. You should get a refund immediately. Game not releasing on Xbox One," he confirmed. Before this remark, there were no signs of the "Adr1ft" Xbox One being canned.

Orth did not elaborate on the decision not to release the game on the console. When asked by New Game Network about the surprising decision, here is what he had to say.

"Adr1ft will not be coming to Xbox One. I hope [fans] are able to find some way to experience and enjoy it on our other platforms."

Some Xbox One players expressed their frustration about the failure of Orth's team to formally announce the cancellation of the game, especially since many were waiting for it and had pre-ordered it on the platform.

"Adr1ft" follows an astronaut who wakes up in space only to find herself floating among the wreckage of a space station without a clue of what happened and her EVA suit leaking oxygen.

Players are tasked to find clues to make sense of the terrible ordeal the protagonist wakes up to and ultimately find a way to return to planet Earth safe and sound.

"Adr1ft" is inspired by Orth's personal life, particularly during the time he was forced to leave Microsoft as one of its creative directors back in 2013, right before the Xbox One was released and was rumored then as "always on" device. This meant that internet connection will be required for it to function.

His resignation was fueled by the intense flak he received online after urging people to "deal with it."

"Adr1ft" is currently available on the PlayStation 4, PC, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive.
