|TOP|The African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa has demanded back the 328 schools it was dispossessed of by the colonial Government.

AIPCA head, Samson Maina Gaitho said at the weekend that the Church wanted back the 328 schools which were handed over to the District Education Board (DEBs). Eighty-nine others were given to other churches.

“Due to the Church’s stance against colonialism and its support for freedom fighting movements, the governor dispossessed us of all our schools, an issue that was maintained even after independence,” he said.

Bishop Gaitho threatened to marshal church members to reject the government if it was not willing to give back the 328 schools. He said the Church was not after the 89 schools which were handed over to other churches.

Bishop Gaitho was addressing worshippers in Nakuru during a sermon attended by among others assistant ministers Koigi Wamwere, David Mwenje, Petkay Miriti, MPs Jayne Kihara (Naivasha) and Alfred Nderitu (Mwea) and Nakuru Town parliamentary aspirant Kariuki Mirugi.

He added that he had presented the issue to former president Daniel Moi five years ago who had promised to ensure that the Church got the schools back. Moi's efforts were however cut short when he retired in 2002.

Mwenje pledged to table the matter in the House saying the church would get the institutions back once records confirmed the church indeed owned them.
