"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 5 will be airing its two-hour premiere in December. Marvel recently released a 17-minute series preview on Twitter and after almost seven months of waiting, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will finally return with more intense scenes.

The preview of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 5 episode 1 started with a scene showing a man who seems to be an alien in a human suit. The scenario suggested that he is the leader of a mysterious group that will bring Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) team into space. They accomplished this by freezing the agents first. Then, a teleportation artifact called the monolith sent the agents into space.

Despite arriving in different locations, the agents will eventually find themselves inside a spaceship. A man named Virgil welcomed them, claiming that he is one of their "believers."

Virgil claimed how he has studied the agents for years and told them of their purpose and how their arrival will save humanity. Unfortunately, before Virgil can finish explaining, he was killed by a vicious alien race called the Vrellnexians.

There are no confirmed details whether the Vrellnexians will play a huge part in season 5 or not. However, it should be noted that in the comics, the said race is known for enslaving other species for commercial purposes.

Meanwhile, season 5 teases the possible involvement of Alpha Flight due to a scene that showed a postcard of Lake Ontario. This superhero team was formed by Department H, with Wolverine being one of its earliest members before he joined the X-men.

For a refresher, season 4 ended with the agents being abducted by unknown people while they were eating at a diner. This send-off served as the series' cliffhanger until the season 5 preview revealed that the agents would spend time in space.

The two-hour season premiere for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 5 will air on Dec. 1 on ABC.
