'Agents of SHIELD' season 2 spoilers: Will Hawkeye guest star in new episodes?

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has opened its doors to different Marvel characters. Among those who have been seen in the show are Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). While these characters have all been directly involved with the Avengers, many are wondering when an actual member of the superhero team will crash the show. Word is, it could happen soon. Who could it be then?

Over at Facebook, Clark Gregg, better known as Phil Coulson, uploaded a photo of his character together with Hawkeye. Even if it's just a comic illustration, it comes off as foreshadowing the coming events in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

There are a few good reasons why it makes sense for Jeremy Renner, who plays Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye, to guest star in the show. First of all, Barton is an agent of the organization. Fans will recall that in "Thor," he was the one who was aiming at the Asgardian prince as the latter was trying to break into a S.H.I.E.L.D. camp to retrieve his hammer. In short, Hawkeye has been involved with the organization even before "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," when S.H.I.E.L.D. was believed to be obliterated. But does he know Coulson is alive? Coulson made it clear that he doesn't want anybody else knowing that he is.

But there's probably a deeper reason why Hawkeye should make an appearance in the TV series, and that's to develop the character further. Among all the Avengers, Hawkeye remains as one of the least explored superheroes. Even series creator Joss Whedon admitted that Hawkeye does lack character depth. In "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", Marvel can reveal more about the character.

When asked if the audience will learn more about the superhero, Whedon told Super Hero Hype, "Um, yeah, we are, cause something's up with that boy. That's all I'm gonna say."

Further, Hawkeye actually has an ex-wife working with Coulson, and she's none other than Bobbi a.k.a. Mockingbird. It will be interesting to see Hawkeye stepping between Bobbi and her ex-husband Hunter.

This is still unconfirmed news, but fans are hoping to see an Avenger soon in the TV show. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will return on March 3, 2015.
