'Agents of SHIELD' season 4 spoilers: Ghost Rider coming to the show

The world of "Agents of SHIELD" is about to get bigger and hotter with Ghost Rider charging into the scene. During the San Diego Comic Con or SDCC, the fiery antihero's arrival in season 4 was announced.

It was long rumored that Ghost Rider will be in "Agents of SHIELD" season 4. By the end of the show's panel at the event, the rumor was confirmed with a teaser.

The short "Agents of SHIELD" season 4 clip featured the logo of the titular organization burned to crisp as it transformed into the hellfire-consumed helmet head of the demonic being.

"True Detective" alum Gabriel Luna was tapped to bring to life the iconic Ghost Rider in "Agents of SHIELD" season 4. ABC teases that he will give vengeance a new name.

The Ghost Rider to be featured on the show is Roberto "Robbie" Reyes, the fourth character to take the mantle of the Spirit of Vengeance in the comics introduced in 2014.

Robbie is a high-school student who works at an auto body shop and lives with his developmentally disabled brother Gabe. After a fated street race one night, Robbie's life will never be the same as he becomes the Ghost Rider.

Instead of a motorcycle, Luna's Ghost Rider version in "Agents of SHIELD" season 4 will drive a classic black muscle car that was showcased at SDCC as well.

Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen revealed to Entertainment Weekly that they chose the Robbie version of Ghost Rider and not Johnny Blaze (who was played on the big screen by Nicolas Cage) because "he's a newer comic."

"And also it would be interesting to bring in someone with that background into our dynamic of the show," she went on to explain.

Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb promised (via ComicBook.com) that with the introduction of Ghost Rider, "Agents of SHIELD" season 4 should be the "biggest, most ambitious story yet." He also promised that his entrance will "change everything."

"Agents of SHIELD" season 4 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
