AMD finally unveiled its new line of Radeon™ graphics cards during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which was held at the Belasco Theatre in L.A. last June 16. The much-awaited event was also broadcasted in an online webcast through AMD's own streaming portal, as well as its Twitch channel. During the unveiling, the GPU manufacturing giant, AMD, brought out its new flagship card, the R9 Fury X together with the R9 300 and the R7 300 series.

According to its press release, AMD hopes to compete with the Nvidia Geforce 900 GPU series through its newly released R9 300 line, which features "Fiji", a new and more power efficient architecture. Its R7 300 series is set to capture the mid-ranged GPU market.

The real star of the show, however, is the R9 Fury X. This monster of a graphics card is powered by a dual-GPU system and features a high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is stacked and not spread over printed circuit boards like the current GPUs out of the market. The stacking involves memory chips being placed on top of one another, which is theorized to produce huge gains in terms of memory speed, making them faster when compared to the current GDDR5 layout.

AMD intends for the card to take over the upper-tier GPU market while going toe to toe with Nvidia's Titan X in the 4K-gaming area, as well as Virtual Reality (VR) market by also gearing up the card for the immersive experience, which will be brought to the table by the Oculus Rift this coming Fall.

AMD released the cards' pricelist ahead of time. Prices for the Fury X start at $649 on its launch this coming June 24. The R9 300 series will range from $199-$429 while the R7 300 starts at $109.
