AMD recently announced its Radeon Pro SSG (Solid State Graphics) at the recently concluded SIGGRAPH 2016 in Anaheim, California. The new GPU incorporates two PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots that will allow users to add up to 1TB of SSD directly to it. This will allow a much faster load time during heavy rendering. The company is the first to offer such a device, and it doesn't come cheap.

The AMD Radeon Pro SSG was first unleashed during the event, rendering a raw 8K video. The demo showcased a smooth video experience while running at 30 frames per second. The company claims that it can go up at 90 frames per second. The GPU was loaded with two of Samsung's 950 Pro SSDs, KitGuru reported.

AMD's senior vice president and chief architect for Radeon Technologies Group, Raja Koduri, said in a statement, "One of the most challenging constraints faced by GPU computing applications is the inability to access terabytes of data."

Koduri added, "Radeon Pro SSG is poised to not only speed-up processing for many applications with very large datasets, but also to enable new application experiences by utilizing data persistence of non-volatile memory. This will be a disruptive advancement for many graphics and compute applications."

Additionally, Forbes mentioned that the company also introduced several GPUs for the new Radeon Pro WX lineup. This includes the Radeon Pro WX 7100, designed for professional VR content creation, which will have a sub-US$1,000 price tag and will come with 8GB of memory, 32 compute units, 256-bit interface and more than 5 TeraFLOPS compute performance.

Two adidtional lower models were also announced, the Radeon Pro WX 5100 and the Radeon Pro WX 4100.  All three models will arrive later this year.

The company is now accepting application for the developer kit of the Radeon Pro SSG, which will be available for US$9,999. Full availability is expected to arrive by next year.
