Benito Martinez will reprise his role as Alonzo Gutiérrez in "American Crime" season 3.

The actor, who portrayed the role of the hardworking, dedicated and sometimes overprotective father of Tony (Johnny Ortiz), will return for the third installment of John Ridley's crime anthology drama.

"Ever since Benito brought the role of Alonzo Gutierrez to life in season one, John and I have been looking for a character that would be as memorable and worthy of Benito's talent," executive producer Michael McDonald said in a statement shared by Deadline. "He will be tackling the role of a man searching for his missing son."

Martinez's return to the show provided more hints at the plot for season 3, which will reportedly tackle the intensifying labor issues, economic discrimination, and individual rights issues in North California.

Aside from Martinez, Connor Jessup will also return in the cast roster of "American Crime" season 3. Jessup had an exceptional performance in the series' second season as he portrayed the role of the teenage sexual abuse accuser Taylor Blaine.

"Connor Jessup is one of the smartest and most talented young actors working today," McDonald told TVLine. "[Series creator] John [Ridley] and I believe Connor's performance will be even more emotionally shocking than last year as his character helps shed new light on the opiate addiction epidemic that is plaguing America."

Variety also confirmed that actress Lily Taylor will still be part of the cast of "American Crime" for season 3. She portrayed the role Taylor's mother Anne Blaine. However, there are no details yet regarding her storyline for the upcoming season.

Other returning regular cast members include Timothy Hutton, Felicity Huffman, Regina King, and Richard Cabral.

Meanwhile, the first two seasons of "American Crime" were made available on Netflix starting Aug. 23, while ABC has yet to announce the official release date of its third season.
