'American Crime' season 3 spoilers: Timothy Hutton returns

ABC

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, "American Crime" is set to return for a third season and with the show comes its full main  cast. This will include Timothy Hutton as Russ Skokie, along with his co-stars Felicity Huffman, Regina King and Richard Cabral. Variety also confirms that Lily Taylor will be returning.

"We believe that Tim's undeniable talent will be showcased in a role unlike anything we have ever seen from Tim. He will shock the audience in a darker twisted turn as a wealthy man struggling to keep his family and fortune," stated executive producers John Ridley and Michael McDonald.

TVLine further explained that Hutton is the last of the main cast to sign on for season 3. For several weeks it was speculated that Hutton would be signing back onto the show but prior to the announcement it was still a high possibility that he may not be returning and instead turn over to a different project.

In a report from Ecumenical News, nothing is known yet regarding the main story for season 3, although it has been stated by the studios that it will delve into the themes of labor, individual rights and economic divides, further taking the series into a more political story arc than before.

According to the report, the series has received a total of four nominations for the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards. Both Lili Taylor and Felicity Huffman have been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series, marking the second nomination for Huffman and Taylor's first.

Regina King has also been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress while the entire show has been nominated for Outstanding Limited Series. This will be the second time the show has been nominated for the award.

No official premiere date for "American Crime" season 3 has been announced although The Hollywood Reporter reveals that it is set to release by the midseason, placing it within an early 2017 timeframe.
