'American Horror Story' season 5 spoilers: Cast news for October premiere

Kathy Bates as Ethel Darling for American Horror Story: Freak Show.Facebook

Even though "American Horror Story" mainstay Jessica Lange is no longer returning for the next season of the much-loved FX anthology thriller, her co-star Kathy Bates is still up for another round.

Ryan Murphy, the creator of the hit series, revealed via Twitter: "Kathy Bates will be running the Hotel."

There is no word what specific role the 66-year old Emmy award winner will be playing, but if Murphy's tweet is any indication, the actress, who played Ethel Darling in "American Horror Story: Freak Show," may play the manager in "American Horror Story: Hotel."

Whether it is merely Murphy's creative way of informing followers of Bates' return or a cryptic message about what the actress will be up to in season 5, only time will tell. The same goes with the other confirmed cast members.

Pop sensation Lady Gaga, whose participation in the fifth season was the first to be revealed (she was also the one who disclosed the title for the new season), is believed to be headlining the show. What role she will portray remains to be seen.

The other individuals joining the ensemble are Matt Bomer, ChloĆ« Sevigny, Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson. Their roles are still a mystery, just like the central plot of "Hotel."

Speculations about season 5 say that the "top hat" clue in season 4 suggests a chemical experiment in Nevada decades back, where the residents died or were affected by the hazards of the substances being researched and tested. Others say the new season will pull off some big scares if it will be inspired by the song "Hotel California."

All the same, whatever "American Horror Story: Hotel" is about, and whether or not series regulars Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett and Evan Peters will return, will all be revealed as its October premiere draws closer.
