'American Horror Story' season 6 will follow 2 time periods; Lady Gaga invited to return

It did not take a while after "American Horror Story: Hotel" put up the shutters for new details about "American Horror Story" season 6 to come to light. As a matter of fact, it was FX network president and general manager John Landgraf that stimulated the buzz.

"It's set in two time periods," the FX boss said during the Television Critics Association (via TV Line), referring to the all new season of the hit horror anthology. He, however, emphasized that it will still be set "principally in the present."

Landgraf hinted that "American Horror Story" season 6 will be blended with "echoes of the past" but refused to provide further details. "[Executive producer Ryan Murphy] will kill me if I tease anything," he said.

It is difficult to dig up details about the plot of the new season, with the fifth run freshly wrapping up. Lady Gaga, who starred in the latest season, was awarded a Golden Globe for her performance.

It is unclear whether or not the pop sensation will be back for a role "American Horror Story" season 6, not to mention a lead role. After all, she took home a prestigious trophy in the name of the program. At the moment, it is confirmed that she was invited to return.

What's certain about the upcoming season, however, is that Angela Bassett will be back for another round of horror and scares. Emma Roberts, who stars in another one of Murphy's projects "Scream Queens," is expected to return as well.

During an interview with E! Online after Lady Gaga's Golden Globe win, Murphy revealed that he has also already determined some of the roles in "American Horror Story" season 6 and who will play them. He may have let the cat out of the bag to some of them as well.

"American Horror Story" season 6 is scheduled to premiere this fall.
