With a successful record-breaking premiere, "American Horror Story" has been renewed by FX for a fifth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

The cable network made the official announcement last Monday that the anthology series by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk will further carry on toward a fifth season that will be comprised of 13 episodes.

"American Horror Story" season five will be shown on the small screen in October 2015.

While cast members for the next season have not been announced, Murphy prefers Jessica Lange to reprise her role in some way despite the award-winning actress' announcement that her final performance for the series will be for "Freak Show."

With the premiere of the fourth season being centered on a carnival and its creepy characters, "American Horror Story" garnered the record for the most-watched telecast in the network's history with a total of 10 million viewers, surpassing the previous record holder, "Sons of Anarchy."

These include 6.54 million adults in the 18-49 demographic and 4.087 million adults for the 18-34 category.

"The American Horror Story anthology has had the highest growth trajectory of any show in FX history, not to mention an unprecedented track record of success in awards recognition," FX CEO John Landgraf said.

He also praised the efforts of the team behind the show and added, "With Ryan Murphy and his partners, Brad Falchuk, Dante Di Loretoand Tim Minearat the helm, the show's success is not surprising. AHS continues to deliver amazing stories, a brilliant troupe of actors led by Jessica Lange, and a visual style unlike any other on TV."

As "American Horror Story" continues its journey further on for the fifth season, Murphy will be having two shows aired between 2014 and 2015, as its companion anthology series "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson" has also been set for a 10-episode lineup.

"American Horror Story" airs every Wednesday at 10 p.m. on FX.
