Now that the seventh run of "American Horror Story" has just concluded, fans and viewers are itching to know what will be in store for the upcoming season of creator Ryan Murphy's outstanding horror anthology.

Murphy told Entertainment Weekly at the recent Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour, "All I'll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I've never done."

It may seem like the show would have a hi-tech setting decades into the future, but Murphy was quick to point out that it will not be in "outer space" or some sort of post-apocalyptic world. Nevertheless, the showrunner stressed that it may likely take place some years in the future.

Murphy further teased, "I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he's asked me not to say what it is. I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it's different from what we've done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I've done on that show."

Elsewhere, in the season 7 finale, Ally Mayfair-Richards (Sarah Paulson) came face-to-face with cult leader Kai Anderson (Evan Peters) on stage at a political gathering. They exchanged several menacing words before he was shot and killed by news reporter Beverly Hope (Adina Porter).

It will be interesting to note that Peters and Paulson have been the only two actors to appear in all seven of the show's seasons thus far. It remains to be seen if they will appear in season 8.

The eighth season of "American Horror Story" is expected to premiere in 2018. Murphy has said that he wants to finish production before Christmas; therefore, the show is likely to arrive in September.
