'Animal Crossing' Amiibo cards out now

"Animal Crossing" website

The new "Animal Crossing" Amiibo cards are now available to the delight of collectors everywhere.

Not much was known about the cards leading up the release, until a posting on the retail website, Amazon, revealed some important details about them.

According to the website, the cards have just been made available, since they were given a Sept. 25 release date. The Sept. 25 release date also appears to be no accident as it just so happens to also be the official launch day for the American version of "Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer."

The "Animal Crossing" Amiibo cards are also being offered in packs of six, iDigital Times reported. Unfortunately for collectors, each pack contains six randomly selected cards, so collecting them all would take either a lot of luck or a lot of money.

Each pack of "Animal Crossing" Amiibo cards is available for $5.99.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the American release date for both the game and the cards are different for Europe. In terms of a European release date, the Amiibo cards and "Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer" are not expected to be released until at least Oct. 2 at the earliest, so fans in that part of the world will have to wait just a bit longer to get their hands on the new items.

For those wondering about what these Amiibo cards actually are, according to Arcade Sushi, they actually work a lot like the Amiibo figures that Nintendo has sold plenty of in the past. The Amiibo cards are embedded with near field communication (NFC) chips, allowing them to be used alongside either the new Nintendo 3DS or an older model that has an NFC reader.

Once the cards have been processed properly, in this case, players will be able to interact with the characters that have been placed on the Amiibo cards. Players without the "Animal Crossing" Amiibo cards will not be able to do the same thing.
