Amir Khan vs. Canelo Alvarez rumors: Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes Khan deprived fans a good fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. joins a growing list of names who are wondering why Amir Khan chose to fight Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez over Kell Brook.

The answer to that is, of course, simple — Alvarez is hot and Brook is not. It is no secret that Khan has been in hot pursuit of big name fights and Alvarez is obviously among those in the list.

For Mayweather Jr., however, it is all about giving the U.K. fans what they want to see. It may not be a big name fight but seeing the "Battle of Britain" certainly ranks among the best fights that the boxing world could be treated to.

Khan knows that Brook is not a solid pay-per-view (PPV) draw but at some point, such could happen. It may take time, but Brook is certainly nearing that niche.

For Khan, facing Alvarez is a fulfillment in its own right since he finally gets to fight someone who ranks among the best of boxing. However, the weight disparity is something that leads many to speculate if the Briton can take the pounding that Alvarez is expected to unleash when they face off on May 7.

Brook, on the other hand, will just have to wait a bit. His camp did have talks with Khan and company but the fight purse split was something that was never settled. Khan wanted a large chunk, but Brook manager Eddie Hearn whittled that down a bit. Obviously, Khan wasn't amenable to the split.

Like Khan, all Brook needs is a big fight against someone up in the ranks. He could eye big name fighters as well but can only do so after he (successfully) defends his International Boxing Federation (IBF) title against Kevin Bizier.

He did mention a possible fight with Gennady Golovkin, although the Kazakh may not be too keen on the idea. Like Khan and Brook, Golovkin is another fighter in search of a big fight payday.
