Amir Khan believes the fight he wanted for so long against Floyd Mayweather Jr. is very close to happening with the British slugger saying the match could be confirmed within two weeks.

Khan just came off a unanimous decision victory over Chris Algieri last May 29 in New York to defend his welterweight championship.

After his title defense, the 28-year-old said he wants to face the undefeated and No. 1 pound-for-pound Mayweather next.

In a report by The Guardian, Khan said the fight he is anticipating may be confirmed in two weeks.

"I don't think I have ever been closer to getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather than I am at this moment. The indications are that I have strengthened my case with my win over Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks," Khan stated according to The Guardian.

Khan had been linked to a fight with the 48-0 Mayweather a number of times but the American chose to face Marcos Maidana (twice) and Manny Pacquiao instead.

"I have waited too long and, while I believe it is finally going to happen, I am still determined to pursue other big fights in the United States once I have had some time off with my family," Khan also said.

Another matchup fans want to see is a slugfest between Khan and fellow British boxer Kell Brook.

Brook also defended his welterweight title against Frankie Gavin one day after Khan's successful defense over Algieri and is still undefeated at 24-0.

But Khan is not entertaining any fight with Brook as he said according to The Guardian, "I have no interest in fighting Kell Brook at the moment because there are so many other, bigger fights out there for me."

Khan added that Brook brings nothing to the table and does not deserve to fight him.

In which Brook retaliated, "He's got no right to fight Mayweather – if anyone is going to get the Mayweather fight it should be me. I'm world champion and unbeaten."
