Hollywood's recent shaker involved many celebrities accusing film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. Since news about this broke out, the scandal had cast a shadow on The Weinstein Company (TWC).

"Amityville: The Awakening," which stars Bella Thorne, recently premiered in theaters, the first released by the company since the scandal. The film reportedly earned a scanty $742 upon its release in 10 areas on Saturday, Oct. 28. The movie was also on Google Play, allowed to be streamed for two weeks, from Oct. 12 to Nov. 8, for free. The horror of the controversy had hounded the film; it should have garnered attention because of its timely release just before Halloween, but instead turned out to be a horrendous flop.

An earlier report stated that TWC had been heading to bankruptcy ever since the Weinstein scandal brought out many brave souls with their horrendous accounts. TWC execs had since denounced the rumors and said that these were "complete fiction."

The New York Times recently reported that TWC was not granted with the financial help after an initial cash infusion plan from Colony Capital did not push through. The firm saw "more disorder than it had expected — and less value — once it started closely examining the studio's assets."

"Amityville: The Awakening" also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Cameron Monaghan and is directed by Franck Khalfoun. The trailer of the film had been released in 2015, but its debut to the big screen had been pushed farther.

Celebrities who came forward against the film magnate include Kate Beckinsale, Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, and Cara Delevingne. Weinstein had been removed from the Oscar board in October, and recently, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) had banned him from joining the organization for a lifetime.

"The Producers Guild's National Board of Directors voted unanimously to initiate proceedings to terminate the membership of Harvey Weinstein," the PGA said.
